Cotton Candy Eatery on Mount Eden Road settles comfortably into the neighbourhood’s laid-back café scene. It’s the kind of place where locals pop in for a reliably good coffee routine — the flat white and hot chocolate both get consistent nods for being well-crafted without fuss. The interior is clean and simple, making it an easy spot to quietly catch up or settle in with a book during the quieter morning hours.

Brunch here leans into fresh, bright flavours with some playful twists. The standout for many is the French toast, topped with a distinctive puff of cotton candy that immediately sparks curiosity — just watch the sweetness depending on how much syrup you add. Savoury options like the shakshuka egg, the “Candy Benny,” and smashed pumpkin offer satisfying portions that still feel thoughtful rather than heavy. The mushroom and chorizo combo also earns praise for flavour and heartiness, while the parma chicken burger is reportedly a solid midday pick.

The café attracts a mix of locals: early risers grabbing their caffeine fix, families with children catered for by a modest kids’ menu, and brunch goers who appreciate the balance of wholesome and indulgent choices. Midday visits tend to fill the space with a gentle buzz without ever feeling crowded or rushed. Service is noticeably prompt, adding to the easy-going, no-hassle atmosphere.

Beyond drinks and breakfast fare, Cotton Candy Eatery accommodates diverse taste buds with sides like creamy spinach, roast tomato, or sticky bacon that add a little extra heft or colour to the plate. The drink list extends to chilled soft drinks and fresh juices, appealing to those who want a lighter refreshment alongside their meal.

Whether you’re after a steady morning coffee to kick off your day, a casual brunch with friends, or a quiet spot to recharge on a weekday afternoon, Cotton Candy Eatery offers an approachable and unpretentious experience. Its blend of simple, fresh ingredients with a few imaginative touches reflects the local appetite for good food that doesn’t overstay its welcome.

I visited this café for the French toast. The cotton candy on top really caught my eye. The taste was nice, but I think I added too much maple syrup — combined with the cotton candy, it became a bit too sweet! Be cautious if you don’t like overly sweet desserts. For the savoury dishes, I ordered the fried pork chop with salad. The portion was big enough to fill me up, and the taste was quite nice. I was pleasantly surprised that the pork chop was still juicy, as fried pork chops can easily be overcooked and dry. Worth a try!

This place absolutely blew us away The presentation and flavours were next level. My husband was shook when his French toast came out with a giant cloud of candy floss, they delivered The service was speedy, the coffee was perfection , and my juice (orange, apple, carrot, ginger) was so good I basically inhaled it. I got the mushroom + chorizo and it slapped too Definitely coming back!

Incredible food selection & pastries. The strawberry matcha was PERFECT!! Tried the bacon and egg hash, scrambled croissant, a few smoothies, and smashed pumpkin & really enjoyed it all. The smashed pumpkin breakfast was so unique and one of my top breakfast I’ve ever had… Came here twice during our two days in Auckland it was so good!

I REALLY wanted to rate 5 stars, but couldn’t in the end. Explanation further below. Here’s a snapshot of the experience: PROS: - Great options - Friendly and welcoming staff - Fair performance under pressure - Prompt service and low wait time despite the crowd - No holiday surcharge - Yum tomatoes, smoothie, coffee and kranksy sausage CONS: - Order messed up - Egg shells in the food (see pics) - Some of the food was cold (bacon) - Outside table was slanted, but manageable EXPERIENCE: We attended on 2nd Jan 2026. Full house. Let me pre-face my review by saying the experience considers it wasn’t a typical day and it would have been really hard to maintain a consistent service level. I applaud the staff for their efforts on such a high pressure day. We were greeted and seated swiftly, followed by our order being taken after 5mins. The waitress advised she could remember our whole order without writing it down. So we gave it. It was a big order however and I had my suspicions. Sure enough when the order comes out, she’s forgotten that I asked for scrambled eggs, not poached. But it’s forgivable, I like both. This is where things went down hill though. I bit into my eggs and found 3 egg shell pieces. I’ve taken a photo of one. The tomatoes and kranksys were awesome. The smoothie and coffee were excellent too. 4 stars given due to egg shells, wrong order taken, slightly cold bacon not cooked to how I like it and other things listed in the cons earlier. Again, I acknowledge this was a busy day - it’s easy to make mistakes. But it is my money being spent. I have expectations. A fair experience, just lower your expectations a bit if it’s a busy day! Cheers! :)

I was attracted by their cabinet display the last time I had brunch nearby, so I decided to visit this place next time. And I’m glad I did! 4.5/5 Candy Benny (mushroom) Very tasty, I loved itt. Potato Rosti (hashbrown style) the texture was just right, crispy but not too oily. I also tried the Creamed Spinach for the first time, and I was impressed! 3.8/5 Scrambled Croissant I personally didn’t like the cumin spice on top, but the croissant itself was super crispy. If the spice were replaced with other sauce(chilli kind?), it would pair perfectly with the marinated chilli. 4.5/5 Coffee The barista made outstanding latte art, and the milk foam was just right. I don’t usually say I’ll come back for a second visit, but this place is definitely worth it.
